2012年にデュオを組み、ブラジルが生んだ偉大な作曲家エイトル・ヴィラ=ロボス（Heitor Villa-Lobos 1887 - 1959）の楽曲を現代的に再解釈した『Villa-Lobos Popular』を発表したアミルトン・ゴドイ（milton Godoy）とガブリエル・グロッシ（Gabriel Grossi）が、再びデュオを組んだ。彼らの2026年リリースの続編は、『Os Filhos de Villa』つまり“ヴィラの子どもたち”。ブラジル音楽史に輝かしく残る様々な作曲家たちの代表作を取り上げつつ、ヴィラ=ロボスの音楽的遺産を辿って行く。

ブラジルを代表するシンガーソングライターのイヴァン・リンス（Ivan Lins）の新作『Sambadouro』が2026年7月24日にリリースされた。イヴァン・リンスといえば、自身で鍵盤を弾きながら歌う、めちゃめちゃ個性的かつお洒落なAORあるいはジャズ寄りのMPBという印象が強いが、今作では彼自身の長年の念願であったという「サンバ」に全振りしたサウンドで、リラックスしながらも情熱的な演奏を届けてくれた。

ラキーシャ・ベンジャミンは2024年からグラミー賞ノミネート６回。今や押しも押されぬアメリカのジャズシーン屈指のアーティストにありつつある。彼女のその評価を確立したのが、作品のクオリティだろう。2020年の『Pursuance: The Coltranes』から、コンセプトを定め、それに合わせた人選を行い、アルバムと言うフォーマットでしか表現できないものを作り上げた。そこには自信が切に願うメッセージや願いも込められていて、それが曲の作りやゲスト、アートワークにも直結している。ある意味ではジョン・コルトレーンとアリス・コルトレーンが行っていたことをどう受け継ぐかを考えた結果のまっとうな結論だったのではないかと僕は思っている。続きをみる

北欧を代表するピアノトリオ、ソーレン・ベーべ・トリオ（Søren Bebe Trio）による9枚目のスタジオ・アルバム『Gratitude』がリリースされた。デンマークの音楽賞にノミネートされた前作『Here Now』（2023年）で確立された、ベーシストのカスパー・テーイル（Kasper Tagel）とドラマーのクヌート・フィンスルー（Knut Finsrud）とのピアノトリオ編成で、オリジナル曲を中心に北欧らしい抑制された美学が貫かれた作品となっている。

インドネシアの首都ジャカルタの貧しい家庭に生まれ、ジャズ・シンガーとしての道を歩み、現在はカンボジアを拠点に活動するインタン・アンドリアナ（Intan Andriana）が、初のアルバムとなる『My Life in Jazz』をリリースした。音楽性はオーソドックスなジャズのスタイルを基本としつつ、マヌーシュ・スウィングなどの要素も加える。アルバムにはオリジナル曲に加え、インドネシアの名曲(5)「Bengawan Solo」なども取り上げるなど、インドネシアとカンボジアという二つの文化的ルーツを結ぶ象徴的な内容に仕上げている。

今、これほど面白い一流のジャズトリオは、ほかにないと思う。 トリオ・グランデ（Trio Grande）。ギタリストのギラッド・ヘクセルマン（Gilad Hekselman）、サックス奏者のウィル・ヴィンソン（Will Vinson）、そしてドラマー/ベーシストのネイト・ウッド（Nate Wood）から成るトリオだ。特に、器用にベースを弾きながらドラムスを叩く（ドラムスを叩きながらベースを弾く、の方が正しいかもしれない）ネイト・ウッドの姿を初めて見れば「大道芸か」と見紛うかもしれないが、聴けば聴くほどに彼らが音楽的にも“人並外れた”存在だと気付くはずだ。

2020年代ブラジル・インディーを代表する二人の気鋭シンガーソングライター、ソフィア・シャブラウ（Sophia Chablau）とフェリピ・ヴァケイロ（Felipe Vaqueiro）が出会い意気投合、2025年10月にリリースしたアルバム『Handycam』。MPBやトロピカリアに通ずるサイケロックを基調に、親密で文学的なソングライティングによって恋愛や友情といった身近な感情から、戦争やメディアのあり方までを描いた、要注目の作品となっている。

アメリカ合衆国のピアニスト、ゲイリー・ヴェルサーチェ（Gary Versace）の新譜『Three Track Mind』は、今年（2026年）のジャズ・ピアノトリオ作でベストの一枚だろう。オーソドックスなピアノトリオ編成で、収録曲のうち半数がスタンダードという構成は、一見すると保守的でつまらなそうに思えるかもしれないが、何よりもジャズという音楽の即興によるインタープレイの楽しさに改めて気づかせてくれる。あるいは、2回演奏される「Autumn Leaves」といった古典的な楽曲でさえ、これだけ自由で創造的に生まれ変わることができるのだという最高の事例だ。

ウルグアイの作曲家/ベーシスト/プロデューサー、フランシスコ・ファトルーソ（Francisco Fattoruso）の新譜『Galaxy 4133』は、目の覚めるようなシンセ・ファンクが強烈な傑作だ。ウルグアイの伝統的なカンドンベの影響を受けたリズムに、マーカス・ミラー（Marcus Miller）を想起させる力強いスラップが縦横無尽に飛び交う。サウンドの軸にあるのはモーグ・シンセサイザー。アルバム・タイトルや収録曲名からも分かるように、近未来SF的な風情が漂う──確かにコンセプト自体は若干安直な印象も拭えないが、そうと分かっていても、この音楽はかっこいい。

バークリー・グローバル・ジャズ・インスティテュート（Berklee Global Jazz Institute）で出会った3人──米国出身のピアニストのチェイス・モリン（Chase Morrin）、キプロス出身の打楽器奏者ジョージ・ラーニス（George Lernis）、パレスチナ出身のチェロ奏者ナシーム・アラトラシュ（Naseem Alatrash）による新作アルバム『Ize Trio: Global Prayer』は、各地の伝統音楽を取り込みながらますますグローバルに多様化してゆく現代ジャズの中にあって、その独自性から一際興味の惹かれる作品だ。

イスラエル出身、ニューヨークや欧州を拠点とするダブルベース奏者アロン・ニア（Alon Near）が、自身初のリーダー作となるアルバム『Names, Places』をリリースした。収録曲はすべて彼による作曲で、深い抒情性を湛えた楽曲群が素晴らしい。演奏にはトム・オレン（Tom Oren, p）、ガイ・モスコヴィッチ（Guy Moskovich, p）、オフリ・ネヘミヤ（Ofri Nehemya, ds）、ヨタム・シルバースタイン（Yotam Silberstein, g）、イタマール・ボロホフ（Itamar Borochov, tr）といった現代イスラエルジャズを代表する名手たちが多数参加し、聴きごたえのあるプレイをたっぷりと楽しませてくれる。

フランスの人気ピアノトリオ、EYM Trio はこれまで世界中をツアーする合間に、訪れた街の街角で、海辺で、廃墟で、ときには火山の火口付近で、「ノマド・セッション」と彼らが呼ぶ屋外セッションを繰り広げてきた。2019年から続けられてきたこのプロジェクトの動画は、2026年7月現在で13本あり、それらはYouTubeの彼らの公式チャンネルで観ることができる。2026年7月にデジタル・リリースされた彼らの新作『NOMAD SESSIONS』は、そのノマド・セッションの集大成的なアルバムだ。

ビョーク（Björk）がポルトガル語で歌い上げた、ミルトン・ナシメントの大名曲「Travessia（トラヴェシーア）」。録音には、オリジナルの「Travessia」のアレンジにも関わったエウミール・デオダートも参加している。 エイズ撲滅支援の世界的プロジェクト『Red Hot + Rio』のために録音されながらも、結果的に公式リリースを見送られ、「幻の音源」となってしまった。当時の報道では、ビョークがこの仕上がりを気に入り、自身の新作のために取っておきたいと考えたためだと伝えられている。だが、その後の公式アルバムにも収録されず、現在知られている音源は、のちに一部の非公式コンピレーション（『Icelandic Mysteries』など）に収録された音源だ。現在のところ、正規のディスコグラフィーには残らない「アウトテイク」となってしまっている。

ミルトン・ナシメントの音楽には、何度も列車が現れる。 それは単なる乗り物ではない。ミナスジェライスの山あいを走る鉄道であり、故郷と外の世界を結ぶ線であり、誰かを連れてくる音であり、誰かを連れ去る音でもある。駅のベンチ、遠い汽笛、煙を吐く機関車、空っぽになった広場、見送る人、帰ってくる人。ミルトンの歌において「trem」は、いつも風景以上のものを運んでいる。 ・鉄道は、出会いと別れの場所である。 ・鉄道は、郷愁の器である。 ・鉄道は、失われた共同体の記憶である。 ・そしてときに、人生そのものの比喩になる。
