トルコ出身のシンガーソングライター/クラリネット奏者、エズギ・セヴギ・ジャン（Ezgi Sevgi Can）によるデビュー・アルバム『Karanfiller』が素晴らしい。全曲がエズギ・セヴギ・ジャンの作詞作曲で、彼女自身はヴォーカルとクラリネットを担当。サウンドは親しみやすい西洋音楽と、マカームに根差した微分音や変拍子が見事に融合しており、音楽的にも新鮮な感動がある作品だ。しかしその裏には、彼女と彼女の家族をめぐる悲劇的な運命と、15年以上にわたって闘い続ける、彼女の強さが隠されていた。

チリ出身のサックス奏者メリッサ・アルダナ（Melissa Aldana）の新作『Filin』は、彼女の念願だったというバラード集だ。キューバのレジェンド、ゴンサロ・ルバルカバ（Gonzalo Rubalcaba）をピアノに迎え、1940年代から60年代にかけてキューバで流行した歌謡スタイルであるフィリン（Filin）にインスパイアされたジャズを聴かせてくれる良盤となっている。

おそろしいほどの完成度のアルバムだ。 ポルトガル・リスボンの鬼才、ブルーノ・ペルナーダス（Bruno Pernadas）の2026年新作『unlikely, maybe』は、さまざまなジャンルのごった煮を押しも押されもせぬ“ポップス”に仕立て上げる彼の才能が際立つ。前作『Private Reasons』がパンデミック渦中の2021年のリリースだから、実に5年ぶりの満を持しての新作。ジャズやサイケロックを基軸にブラジル音楽やハイライフ、ダブといった要素も混在させ、細部まで音楽的にも音響的にも凝ったことをやっていながら、純然たるポップスとして機能する驚くべき作品だ。
